INTERNATIONAL SUB-PROJECT WORKSHOP HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE PALERMO PROGRESDEC MEETING

On October 10th and 11th, the splendid Antonino Salinas Archaeological Museum provided the framework for the 6th ProgreSDEC Technical Meeting and Steering Committee. Representatives from the project consortium included, beyond of course the Leading Partner Latium Region, the Piedmonte and Sicilian regions from Italy, The Regions of Western and Central Macedonia in Greece, the Govierno de Navarra and the Comunidad de Madrid from Spain, and the research centre IRS located in Berlin.

The work of the meeting was mainly focused on the analysis of the advancement of the 14 Sub-projects, all of which were at the time in the final months of activity. In addition, the comparative analyses from both the horizontal (inter-regional) and vertical (at different scales) perspectives were discussed. The Steering Committee approved financial modifications and timing extensions to the Sub-projects, as well as carrying out a monitoring of expenditures.

International Workshop: Sub-project round tables

On the afternoon of the 11th, an important event for the ProgreSDEC Sub-projects tooks place. In the previous weeks, each Sub-project had prepared a presentational poster illustrating the objectives and results of their activities. This allowed for an Exhibit to be set up amidst the display cases of ancient mosaics and Grecian vases, providing an overview of the significant amount of work carried out in the Regional Framework Operation.Progresdec Conference

The afternoon itself was organised around four round table debates structured according to the themes that had originally structured the Sub-projects’ Call for Proposals. The first, “Landscape: Policies and instruments for landscape management and sustainable development” included presentations from the following Sub-projects: SSTILE, ProgresLand, Lamcode, Landisble and UD&EP. Then followed the round table on “Polycentrism: Strategies and tools for developing polycentrism in large area systems” with the CiProGIS, Cultism, RePlan, CUT, and GATE-INN Sub-projects all making presentations. The two final topics, “Urban regeneration: Policies and tools for the rehabilitation of urban areas” and “Urban/rural: Policies and tools for rebalancing urban structures and non-urban areas as well as town and country planning tools for peri-urban and rural areas” were discussed by representatives of the Surprise, RegeneratioNet, Colore and RuSuRS projects.

This was the first time that representatives from all of the Sub-projects were able to come together, meet one another, and discuss the on-going results of their work. It was also the first time that the ProgreSDEC RFO partners could confront the issues thrown up by the Sub-projects in the context of a cProgresdec Conferenceomparative analysis and debate among the main actors.
As part of the in itinere evaluation of the Sub-projects, the team from the University of Rome La Sapienza working under Prof. Bianchi recorded the discussion and provided the first synthesis of the outcomes of the debates.
